Small glass cups will be placed on the skin to break up “blood stagnation” or congested blood, Qi (energy,) or bring toxins to the surface of the skin. Fire cupping is the act of placing a cotton ball soaked in alcohol, set on fire, inside of a glass cup. The cotton ball and flame are quickly removed, placing the cup on the surface of the skin. Flames are never placed on the skin; the flame is used to create a suction of the cups. Cupping uses soft pressure to pull the superficial muscle layer and skin upward. Benefits of cupping include: release of toxins, clear congestion in the lungs, benefit the lungs, improved blood flow, improved metabolism and digestion, and loosen muscles.
